Have you read , "The old man and the sea" by Ernest Hemingway ?? 
This is also something same but not really.
It's all about life sacrifice, a book based on a true story. As the world famous writer, the author of the book, Chinghiz Aithmatov says, it's his favorite.
The story runs through traditions and customs of a fishery tribal, where three elderly fisherman goes to the sea with a boy to teach him the occupation. 
It shows the human strength to face hardships in unplanned situations, the struggle , battle and the decisions that are taken bravely.

The story has become quite interesting with use of folklore, believes and traditional concepts.

Aithmathov has certainly got a great sense of describing personalities and appearances, which always makes his writings more attractive and realistic.
